Apple Facts and Recipes![]() Some Fun and Useful Apple facts for Fall:
An average apple contains:
Frozen Apple Pie Slices: If you prepare these in advance for the upcoming holidays, you'll save time at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Wash firm-fleshed apples suitable for making pies. Remove bruises and decayed spots. Peel, quarter, and core. Cut each quarter into slices. To prevent discoloration while fixing the apples, slice them into a salt-water solution (1/2 cup salt to 1 gallon of water), or you could use a Fruit Fresh solution (3 tablespoons Fruit Fresh to 1/2-gallon water). When all the fruit is sliced, drain, rinse in cold water, and drain again. For each quart of apple slices, blend 1/2 to 1 cup sugar (according to your taste) with 1/2 tablespoon to 1 tablespoon of cinnamon or apple pie spice. Freeze in quart zip-lock bags for best results. (One quart bag will make two pies).
