Happy Valentines Day

Valentines Day is a special day for us.
I knew for sure that I was in love with Lee on Valentines Day of 1997. It was
in February of 1997 that we became a couple, not exactly on Valentines Day but
only a week after that. We found our new home on Valentines Day. It took us
a few months to move into it after we found it, but it was still Valentines
Day when we found it. It seems like Valentines Day is our day for finding things.
First each other, then our home. The first year we were together, for Valentines Day, Lee gave me
a gift and a card for every day of that week, and a dozen roses delivered to
my work on Valentines Day.
After we got together, he set about making
some of the wishes on my "wish list" come true. You know, the list of things
you always think you would love to have, but really never bothered to go out
and buy for yourself. The first on my list was a soul mate and a best friend,
which was him... The second thing on my list was a porch swing. It is now hanging
from our screen porch, where we can sit and look out over the mountains and
the valley and read or catch the evening breeze or just hold hands and daydream.
Since then, he has given me many things
that I cherish. He always seems to pick out gifts that have been made especially
for me -- hummingbirds, hummingbird feeders, little miniature things, beautiful
jewelry, even clothes. He made a miniature log cabin for me that is absolutely
beautiful. He always puts such thought and effort into choosing the smallest
gift that I cherish each and every one of them.

One thing he may not be aware that he has
given me, though, is a sense of being loved, of being a whole family again,
of belonging and caring...He and I have been friends for many years. We did
not fall in love until 1997, but our friendship made that possible,
I believe, and makes our relationship stronger now. When I was a widow, for
many years, I did not believe I would ever find that type of belonging again,
that type of love and commitment and sense of family. I began to believe I would
never have a best friend again, and that love like that only comes along once
in a lifetime. I was wrong. I have found something I did not think was possible,
an even closer best friend, an even stronger love, and a stronger sense of family
and belonging.
I only hope I have given back to him as
much as he has given me. I think we have both blossomed. I hope he will Always be my Valentine, because I know I will always be his.
