Pomeranian Colors, Black, Blue, Blue/Tan & Black & Tan Black is obviously easy to tell. There are black, black with white markings, and black & tan pups. The male on the right is a cream. His brother on the right is black. These boys are from a black mother and orange/sable father. They also had a cream grandmother.
Black adults are easy to spot also. We have several throughout our pages:
Toy Soldger on left, Cubby on the right. True blues are a little more difficult to tell. I have only ever seen one true blue in my life, which was a puppy bred by our cream male when mated with a black female. The color looked silver when it was born, and turned blue gray in color as it got older. I will try to get some photos from the lady who owns the mother of the litter (as I KNOW she took a bunch). Blue/tan and Black & Tan: We have a blue/tan female, that is Peggy:
We mated her with our orange/sable male and got 2 blue/tan males:
Characteristic of this color is the silver shot throughout. The Australians call this color wolf/sable. On the American Pomeranian Club website, sometimes the same photos are shown to depict blue/tan and black/tan. You can see why it is quite confusing. However, the black and tans are definitely black with tan markings, eyebrows, feet, and other spots. I don't want to use their copyrighted photos either. If someone has some black & tan photos they would send, we would appreciate it. The blue/tans have a more "faded" black. Here are photos of the same boys as above, a bit older (in the middle of their puppy uglies), but you can see how the black is "faded" now. You can also still see the silver shot through, especially in the tail and sides of the male on the left.
Hopefully, I'll be able to get some photos of the true blue pup and some black and tans for instructional purposes.
