Milk and Meat Goats

We've been raising goats for several years now.  We started with milk goats because of cow's milk allergies.  We've had several different types of milk goats, and we raised registered Alpines for a while.  Raising the registered Alpines in our area just wasn't very cost effective.  People in this area just didn't want to pay for fancy milk goats, as all they really care about is the milk, not the registrations.  We still keep the Alpines.  We have star milker lines in many of our goats.  We still keep an Alpine buck & several does.  We've usually always kept at least one Nubian also, as it added a good flavor to the milk (though the Nubians don't usually give as much milk as the Alpines).  Over the last few years, we've added some Boers to our goat herd, and we've been crossing the meat goats & milk goats.  We usually keep a few werthered males for our freezer and sell some of the werthers.  We also sell a few does and keep a few.  Last year, we kept most all our little does to increase our own herd.  Here's a few photos of our goat herd, along with some our 2005 spring kids.  Please click on the arrow buttons to enjoy the slide show.

With the milk goats, of course, we make a lot of cheese and other products with goat's  milk.  Please feel free to check these out as well.
